Swim, cycle, run… active travel at its best and all for charity!

It’s that time of year and once again the Bristol-based Transport Planning Consultants entered a three-person team in the 16th JLL Property Triathlon, at Dorney Lake in Berkshire on Friday 30th June 2023.

More than 3500 competitors took part in individual and team challenges. James Chequer undertook the swimming stage of the relay, a 750m open water swim of the Dorney rowing lake. Mark, as in previous years, was responsible for the 5km run round the lake. And this year saw the return of James Perez for the cycling leg.

None of the team were available for comment, so we can only assume the day took its toll on them…

In 2022 the PEP team came in a very respectable 166 out of 429 relay teams who completed the race. This year they bettered this and came 106 out of 468 teams, with a time of 1hr 21m 05s. Most commendable. For those who are interested in the team’s progress, in 2022 their time was 1.24.59 and in 2021 it was 1.24.13. So they’re inching their way to the podium, year on year!

Once again, the charity partner for the JLL Property Triathlon was WWF. JLL aims to raise at least £750,000 by 2026 for WWF.  Last year the event raised £179,280. This year it was over £194,000. Michael Dent, Executive Director of Supporter Income and Engagement at WWF-UK explained, “Our planet is facing an emergency, but we can change this if we come together and demand action. These funds will go towards our critical work to tackle the climate and nature emergency and bring our world back to life. This includes our Sustainable Futures programme, which is supporting young people in the UK to develop sustainable skills and thrive in a future green economy.”

And sustainability is a subject close to the hearts of the PEP team, as they explore ways of reducing carbon emissions for both the company and clients.

Good luck to the PEP team next year who, we’re quite sure, will want to chip away at their record again. Perhaps in 2024 we’ll persuade them to wear fancy dress…
