Planning Permission granted for Frenchay Primary School

PEP has successfully assisted South Gloucestershire Council in gaining planning permission for a two-form entry primary school adjacent to a new residential development at the former Frenchay Hospital site, Bristol.

The proposal involves the relocation of the existing Frenchay Primary School in Church Road, 700 metres to the south of the former Frenchay Hospital, which closed in December 2014.

PEP also assisted the North Bristol NHS Trust with the outline planning permission to redevelop the 29-hectare site with up to 490 homes, a new health and social care unit and a primary school approved in 2014.

PEP was appointed to prepare the Transport Statement and Travel Plan for the school planning application. The production of the Travel Plan for the school required PEP to devise and conduct travel surveys for the current pupils and parents/carers.

PEP helped design a suitable access scheme for the proposals, on what is a constrained site. It involved detailed liaison with the highways officer throughout the planning process to achieve an acceptable solution.

Car parking provision for the site was limited and PEP advised on a suitable design that would maximise car parking and also allow for servicing and refuse collection to be carried out.

Safe Routes to School were considered, which has since prompted South Gloucestershire Council to undertake a public consultation on how best to spend allocated monies to improve pedestrian routes to the proposed school site.
